AnimBetween is a curated guide to independent animation. The videos play through YouTube's embedded player from the creators' own channels. You can use everything on the site without an account. AnimBetween runs no advertising and never sells or shares your information. This page explains what is stored, where, and how to remove it.
Without an account
If you don't sign in, AnimBetween keeps nothing about you on its servers. Your preferences and your place in each series are stored in your own browser, using the browser's local storage. That store holds:
- The last episode you watched in each series and how far into it you were, so you can pick up where you left off.
- Your settings: whether series pages autoplay, whether hover previews play, and whether they start with sound.
- Which previews you have already seen during a visit, so a second hover starts at a different point.
You can erase all of it at any time with "Clear history" on the My page, or by clearing site data in your browser.
If you create an account
Accounts are optional. You can sign in with Google, Discord, a code sent to your email address, or an email address and password. With Google or Discord, that service tells AnimBetween your name, your email address (only if the service has verified it), your profile picture, and an ID that identifies your account at that service. AnimBetween never sees your Google or Discord password, and gets nothing else: not your contacts, your YouTube history, your Discord servers or your messages.
With an email code, AnimBetween emails you a 6-digit code and a sign-in link that work once, for 10 minutes. Only a hash of each is stored, a one-way fingerprint that cannot be turned back into the code or link, and it is deleted once used. To stop abuse, AnimBetween keeps a record of each code sent and each wrong code typed, with a hash of the network address it came from, for up to a day.
With a password, AnimBetween stores only a hash of it, a one-way fingerprint that cannot be turned back into the password. If you forget it, an emailed code signs you in and you can set a new one.
With an account, AnimBetween stores:
- Your name, email address and profile picture, and which sign-in services are connected.
- Your place in each series and how far into each episode you were, so it follows you between devices.
- The titles you like, and your settings.
The first time you sign in, the progress already saved in that browser is copied into your account, so you don't lose your place. If you sign in with more than one of these using the same email address, they are joined into one account. For Gmail addresses, dots and anything after a "+" are ignored, as Gmail itself does.
Your email address is used to recognize you, to join your sign-in methods into one account, and to send sign-in codes when you ask for one.
Cookies
AnimBetween sets cookies only for signing in:
- A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in for up to 180 days or until you sign out. It holds a random code; only a hash of that code is stored on the server, a one-way fingerprint, so it cannot be read back from AnimBetween's records.
- A short-lived security cookie during sign-in, lasting at most 10 minutes, which makes sure the sign-in that returns from Google or Discord is the one you started.
There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Where it is stored
Account data is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts AnimBetween, in a database located in North America. Cloudflare processes it only to run the site. Its privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. Sign-in emails are sent through Cloudflare's email service. Film and TV titles and posters in rooms come from TMDB; this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deleting removes your account, your sign-in connections, your progress, your liked titles and your settings right away. Signing out ends the sign-in on that browser. Progress saved in your browser itself stays until you clear it on the My page.
You can also remove AnimBetween's access at Google or in Discord under User Settings, then Authorized Apps. That stops future sign-ins with that service; it does not delete your AnimBetween account.
Analytics
AnimBetween uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. Cloudflare's analytics do not use cookies or track you across sites, and the figures AnimBetween sees are aggregated: page views, countries, browsers and referrers, not individual visitors. Analytics are not linked to accounts.
YouTube players
Every video on AnimBetween is an embedded YouTube player, loaded from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain, youtube-nocookie.com. In that mode YouTube does not store information about you until you start playing a video. Once you press play, YouTube and Google may set cookies and collect data under their own terms, exactly as they would on YouTube itself, including showing the creator's ads. AnimBetween does not control that and does not receive it. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
AnimBetween uses YouTube API Services to read public information about the videos in its catalog, such as titles, thumbnails, durations and view counts. That is information about the videos, not about you. By using AnimBetween you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service.
Sharing links
The share button copies the page's address to your clipboard, or on a phone opens your device's share sheet. Nothing is sent to AnimBetween when you share.
Children
AnimBetween is not directed at children under 13. Accounts are for people 13 and older, and AnimBetween does not knowingly hold information about younger children. Some titles in the catalog are made for adult audiences.
Connecting YouTube, later
A future, optional feature will let you connect your YouTube account to see which creators in the catalog you already follow. It is not available yet. Before it launches, this policy will say exactly what it reads, and you will be able to disconnect at any time, inside the site and from your Google account permissions.
Questions
Questions about this policy or about your data go to support@animbetween.com. You can also delete your account yourself at any time, as described above.
Changes to this policy
